Natural grey Welsh slate chippings, direct from the quarry
Our slate chippings are the sought after "natural grey". These chippings are mainly grey in colour, and with some rustic inclusions, adding a beautiful golden / copper colour tone to some of the pieces. This gives our slate chippings a very natural weathered look. The colours are darkened / enhanced when wet.

What are slate chippings used for?
Driveways, paths and general ground cover: grey slate chippings drain well, compact underfoot and under vehicle, and give a distinctive grey finish that stands apart from standard gravel. The 60mm size is particularly popular for decorative ground cover, while the 25mm flatter pieces suit pathways and walk ways, where a more level surface is preferred.
Garden borders and planting beds: used as a decorative mulch around planting, garden slate chippings suppress weeds, retain moisture, and keep beds looking clean and maintained year round. Unlike bark or organic mulches, chippings never need replacing.
Planters and containers: the 25mm size works well as a top dressing for large planters and containers, adding a finished look while helping to regulate moisture at the soil surface.
Garden edging: slate chippings used along path edges and garden borders create a clean, natural delineation between planted areas and hard surfaces.

The 60mm slate stones are a mix of flat and chunkier pieces with varying sizes, both smaller and larger than the overall 60mm average. They are mainly used for decorative cover for their visual presence. They are also a popular choice around ponds and water features.
Why Welsh slate chippings last
Welsh slate drains well, does not compact as heavily as many stone types, and is safe for use around plants, ponds, and wildlife.
